Project details

Overview:

Our project is based on sustainable and regenerative principles, also known as permaculture. Our aim is to create and offer a safe environment for local children and youth, where they can freely express themselves and learn through playful theory and practical examples, alongside English language lessons. We encourage them to be co-creators of the project.

Objectives:

  • Youth Engagement

    • Provide a creative and secure space for children and youth.

    • Facilitate learning through interactive and practical methods.

    • Offer English language lessons.

    • Encourage active participation in project creation and development.

    •

  • Community Workshops and Events

    • Organize workshops and events for the wider public, mainly targeting Bangkok residents and expats.

    • Focus on practical skills for growing and preserving food based on local conditions.

    • Provide annual Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) courses to enhance understanding of permaculture ethics, principles, design processes, and implementation techniques.

    • Collaborate with partner projects and guest lecturers for additional workshops and lectures.

Location:

The project site is situated between MuakLek district (Saraburi Province) and PakChong district (KoRat Province), just 150 km from Bangkok, with direct train and bus connections. The land spans about 40 rais (approximately 9.6 hectares), including flat land for crop farming, a few rais of Eucalyptus forest, and over 20 rais of hill with rock and forest.

Surrounding Area:

The neighborhood predominantly consists of dairy farming, along with crops such as corn, sugar cane, tapioca, jute, peanuts, sesame, and fruit orchards.

Project Ethics

The ethics earth carepeople care and fair share form the foundation for permaculture design and are also found in most traditional societies. Ethics are culturally evolved mechanisms that regulate self-interest, giving us a better understanding of good and bad outcomes.

The greater the power of humans, the more critical ethics become for long-term cultural and biological survival.

Permaculture ethics are distilled from research into community ethics, learning from cultures that have existed in relative balance with their environment for much longer than more recent civilisations.

This does not mean that we should ignore the great teachings of modern times, but in the transition to a sustainable future, we need to consider values and concepts outside the current social norm.

What is Permaculture?

In short Permaculture is a conscious way of living that makes our culture permanently possible.

Permaculture is a forward-thinking design system based on principles found in nature. Its purpose is to create living environments that are harmonious, sustainable and productive; while greatly reducing the work and energy required to maintain them.

Even though the word permaculture was coined recently, the principle is very old. Indigenous cultures around the world practised it as a natural part of their lives.

The aim of permaculture is to create systems that are ecologically-sound and economically viable, which provide for their own needs, do not exploit or pollute, and are therefore sustainable in the long term.
